After eight months of development the version 5.0 of Drupal was announced. The new version concurs with the sixth birthday of the project. Version 4.0 was released in 2002 and in the past years the program evolved enough to have the major version number changed from 4 to 5.
Many sites in the net are powered by Drupal, invluding the personal blog of the recognized as “father” of World-Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee, podcast sites like TWIT.tv, community sites like SpreadFirefox.com, art communities like Terminus1525, big media pages like TheOnion.com, MTV and even NASA sites. Lindeas also is one of these with this site, news.lindeas.com.
For the new 5.0 version 1173 code patches were sent from 492 developers. And this is just the “core”, not counting the work that has been done on the additional modules. With this version 150 people more than with the previous 4.7 version were involved. There are many interface enhancements, new default theme, web-based installer, and a new API which will allow module and theme developers to contribute even more to the flexibility and usability of Drupal.
